Community Guidelines

The house rules for comments, live chat, the arcade lounge and every other place readers talk on Daily Junction — and how we enforce them.

Last reviewed

Daily Junction has comments on articles, live chat next to the TV player, an arcade lounge and quiz leaderboards. They stay pleasant because of a few plain rules, applied consistently.

The short version

Be the person you'd happily sit next to. Argue with ideas, not people. Don't post anything you wouldn't want attributed to you in daylight.

What's welcome

  • Disagreement. Push back on our reporting, our columnists and each other — with reasons.
  • Corrections. If we got something wrong, say so (better still, request a correction so it reaches the editors).
  • Expertise and first-hand experience. The best comment threads are the ones where readers know more than we do.
  • Humour. Genuinely.

What gets removed

  • Abuse and harassment — insults, threats, pile-ons, or targeting any person or group over who they are.
  • Hate speech of any kind.
  • Doxxing — posting anyone's private information, including your own.
  • Spam and undisclosed promotion — including link-dropping, referral codes and bot traffic. (Advertisers: we sell honest placements — see advertising.)
  • Dangerous misinformation — content that could cause real-world harm if believed.
  • Illegal content, or content that encourages illegal acts.
  • Impersonation of other readers, our journalists, or the moderation team.
  • Off-topic flooding — persistent derailing of a thread.

How moderation works

  • Comments and chat pass automatic filters (rate limits, length caps, spam heuristics) before a human ever needs to look.
  • Our clearly-badged AI host sometimes opens or nudges a discussion. It is always labelled — it never pretends to be a reader — and it never moderates alone: removals and bans are human decisions.
  • Anyone can flag content: use the Report link beside any comment, or the report form. Reports go straight to a person, never to the AI.
  • We remove first and discuss second when something plainly breaks these rules. Repeat or serious offenders lose posting access.

Appeals

If something of yours was removed and you think we got it wrong, open a ticket with a link to the thread and roughly when you posted. A human will look and reply.

By posting you confirm the content is yours and grant us a licence to display it on Daily Junction. We may remove any content at our discretion. These guidelines sit alongside our terms and privacy policy.
