How We Are Funded

How Daily Junction sustains independent journalism: advertising, and a strict line between commercial and editorial decisions.

Last reviewed

Independent journalism has to be paid for somehow. Here is exactly how Daily Junction is funded, and — just as importantly — how that funding is kept separate from what we cover and how we cover it.

Advertising

Daily Junction carries advertising, including automated ad placements served by third-party networks. This is our primary source of revenue. Advertisers do not see, approve or influence individual articles before publication, and they have no say in what we choose to cover.

Commercial mentions and tools

Some articles mention or link to relevant commercial products or services — for example, a personal finance piece might reference a comparison tool, a savings app or our own loan calculator. Where this happens, it is because the writer judged it genuinely useful to the reader, on editorial merit, not because of a payment or partnership arrangement. Ads never influence coverage, and coverage is never written to justify an ad placement.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment in exchange for favourable coverage.
  • We do not let advertisers preview, edit or veto articles.
  • We do not run "advertorial" content without clearly labelling it as such — and at present, we do not publish any.

Where to check

If you ever think an article reads like it was shaped by a commercial relationship rather than editorial judgement, tell us — see our contact page. Our full standards, including how we handle conflicts of interest, are set out in the editorial policy, and who is accountable for enforcing them is listed on our masthead.
